FastLab has its roots in the National Center of Competence in Research Molecular Ultrafast Science and Technology (external page NCCR MUST) and is a structural measure that strengthens ultrafast science and technology at ETH Zurich beyond the limited duration of NCCR MUST. The FastLab at ETH Zurich has a external page sister laboratory at the co-hosting institution of NCCR MUST, the University of Bern.
A center in the spirit of the external page FAST initiative and FastLab has been created at EPFL in Lausanne. The external page Lausanne Centre for Ultrafast Science (LACUS) brings together the EPFL teams working in Ultrafast Science and Technology with experimental and theoretical methods as well as those using ultrafast technology in different applications. Research areas are very diverse, spanning from fundamental to applied research and they present a very high degree of complementarity.
The external page Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest national research center in science and engineering in Switzerland. PSI is home to the external page Swiss Light Source (SLS) and external page SwissFEL. Both light sources provide ultrafast measurement tools to their users. Several members of FastLab are also actively pursuing research using the facilities at PSI. In terms of scale, light source parameters and access model FastLab complements the photon science activies of PSI.
